JULY 27, 2011 CLINIC FOR WOMEN VETERANS

A clinic designed for women who are military veterans is scheduled for July 27, 2011 at the Veterans Club 130 Veterans Club Drive in Newnan. The event is hosted by the combined efforts of American Legion Post 57, VFW Post 2667, Marine Corps League Detachment 1325 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31 in LaGrange. Female veterans from all surrounding counties are invited. The meeting is specifically oriented to female veterans who want to apply for VA medical benefits or are seek information regarding filing claims for service connected or non-service connected benefits. ONLY FEMALE VETERANS are invited!

Dottie Pridmore is the featured speaker and will assist veterans in filing for Veterans Administration medical benefits by completing the VA form 10-10EZ. Dottie is the Assistant Supervisor at the Atlanta Disabled Americans Veterans (DAV) Office, located at the VA Regional Office in Atlanta. She is a US Marine Corps retired Gunnery Sergeant with twenty years of service. Dottie served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm with 60 Marines under her command with all returning safely. In her more than six years with the DAV, she has assisted literally thousands of veterans with their VA claims for benefits.

Dottie will speak to VA benefits specifically available to women and how to file claims with needed supporting evidence. In previous female veterans forums she has headlined with topics including Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and women’s Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These topics will also be featured on July 27. Since women veterans now exceed more than eight percent of the total veterans population, the VA is moving to design and implement innovative programs to address their specific needs.

Tousha West, LCSW from the VA Regional Office in Atlanta will also be giving a presentation on the prevalence of suicide among veterans.

For those wishing to apply for VA medical assistance, please bring a copy of your discharge certificate (DD 214) and any private medical insurance you may have.
